Worms Reloaded Slot Overview
You must have played Worms. Surely you’ve played Worms?! OK, if you haven’t played Worms pause now, go and play Worms and come back a better and wiser person to this review. Now you’re here as a confirmed fan of Worms the video game series, we can look at this slot version of the games from Blueprint Gaming and NYX.
The great thing about Worms, which first appeared on the Amiga computer, was how weird and surreal it was. So there’s a lot for this game to live up to in the inherently regimented world of the online slot. But we reckon this 5-reel, 20 pay line slot picks up the atmosphere of the Worms, by throwing lots of extra features at players who can join in for between 20p and £500 a throw.
Worms Reloaded slot game has certainly picked up on the look of the original games, with cartoon brown worms, which owe nothing to real worms at all, the stars of the reels that spin in front of the familiar battlefields of the game.
The playing card symbols are the lowest paying symbols. Above them is our pal the worm warrior and just some of the gruesome weaponry he can call on – rifles, bombs and rockets – and the wild, the game logo that pays 500 coins for a full set.
It’s the extras that are really entertaining though. If the wild symbol explodes – as it can at random – then you’ll be in one of four base-game bonuses.
These are: the Banana Bombs Wilds that sees extra wilds splattered across the reels; the Teleport Mayhem feature (basically a respin); the Holy Hand Grenade that adds extra scatters to the reels; and the Concrete Donkey game that puts concrete donkeys onto the reels (of course), that turn whole reels wild.
And that’s just in the base game. There are also four separate bonus games, triggered with scatter bonus symbols and determined by the type of symbol that lands on the last reel.
A Battleground Bonus delivers a prize picking game. The Jet Pack game is a cash trail offering prizes of up to 1,000x stake. Free Spins include multipliers of up to 5X. And the Super Sheep game runs six free spins and throws sheep onto the reels for the chance of extra wilds and a retrigger.
If you see a progressive jackpot game you’ll be playing at one of Blueprint Gaming’s networked sites.
There’s a load of fun to be had in the Worms Reloaded slot game. Not many developers put as much effort into the extras and bonuses as Blueprint have here and we hope they’re rewarded with lots of play. It’s not always easy to pick up the atmosphere of a video game – particularly one as idiosyncratic as Worms – but here a fantastic job has been done, even down to some excellent sound effects and music.
These worms are winners in every way and we can only say give this game a spin, and then find an emulator and check out one of the all-time video game greats!
