Achilles Slot Game Review
Great Greek heroes of legend always make for a good story, and the all too familiar tale of Achilles is no exception. A warrior without equal, he could stand up to anyone except for his single weak spot being his heel, giving rise to the popular term Achilles’ Heel when someone has an obvious weakness.
And it’s fair to say everyone has at least one of these. Ours is losing all our gambling money over and over again! This RTG slot offers a 5×3 playing field with 20 flexible paylines that you can turn on and off, a progressive jackpot that slowly increases as you keep spinning, two special features, and a promise of a damn good time if you’re lucky enough to pin the Achilles’ Heel of this game.
A City Like No Other
If we’re honest, the visuals in this title are very visibly dated, and if you’ve played any more recent releases from RTG or otherwise, it’s going to very obviously stand out to you as you play through it. There’s not much in terms of fancy animations, but what is there is enough to entice the imagination for us.
The famous Trojan Horse, banners and shields of the old Greeks who sailed to the shores of Troy to besiege it and take down their rival. Even the numbers and letter symbols that are lifted from poker cards show a bit of promise, but we feel they should have been made a bit more Greek-looking to really sell it.
Still, there’s more to RTG’s release than horses and fortresses. The Achilles slot is entirely defined by the fact it has a progressive jackpot, as the whole title seems balanced around that detail alone. If you’re not careful, you can easily breeze through a lot of your budget, but to be fair, the game also does allow you a lot of ways to lower how much you’re spending per spin.
You can adjust how many active paylines you have as well as your active bet, and so you can play Achilles slot machine for as little as $0.01 up to $5 per spin. It’s a nice spread, though we’re sure there’s a few high rollers grumbling about wanting to bet more than that in hopes of boosting the progressive jackpot to win even bigger than usual.
Every Wall Falls Eventually
That said, the slot also does offer two special features to offset the lack of wins during normal gameplay. Both are remarkably similar, and it’s easier to say it’s just one special feature with two different tiers of activation. Both are triggered by three of a certain symbol appears on the playing field, either three Troy symbols or three Achilles icons.
The Troy free spins will double all winnings, while the Achilles extra turns will triple them. The Troy bonus always grants players 10 free spins, while Achilles gives them a random choice between 15, 20 or 25 extra turns. Finally, both of these bonuses can be retriggered, so lucky gamblers could potentially chain them together for a big win.
As such, Achilles slot seems like somewhat standard fare for RTG – a game carefully balanced around the bonuses it offers, with a sufficiently high RTP to tempt players and a high enough volatility to give them a second thought before diving head-first into it. It’s not amazing, but we enjoyed it very much. We can easily recommend it if you’re patient and if you don’t mind the somewhat older graphics.
