Green Light Slot Game Review
Rev your engines and get ready for an adrenaline rush, as your chosen car barrels down the racetrack in competition with all others. Everyone’s riding high, hoping their pick wins, but while for most a car crossing the finish line is the end, for gamblers looking to get into Green Light, it’s actually just the beginning of the story. Because in this 5×3 reel, 20 payline slot, you race cars to determine your bonus, rather than just the win itself.
If you have a thrill for cars and love the rush of racing, you better be primed and ready to give it a go. Between the charismatic driver who acts as a Wild, three green lights that signify free spins are up for grabs, a progressive jackpot waiting for the most ambitious gamblers ready to risk it all – the Green Light slot machine has all the hallmarks of RTG greatness.
Ready, Set, Go!
We’re sure this game was spectacular when it came out, but both the user interface and the symbols show a bit of age when you start them up today to give them a go. It’s only natural, given the massive improvements in user technology and convenience as time went on, but there’s something just charming about some outdated things here.
Like how the Autoplay button simply keeps spinning over and over without allowing you to set how many spins you want. Still, despite being somewhat aged, it holds up well enough, as poker symbols have a checkered flag motif, and the remainder of them are drivers, race cars, or light waiting to light up.
On the gameplay side of things, Green Light slot doesn’t shift much from what’s standard for RTG and its formula. You have a progressive jackpot ticking away that’s randomly triggered when things come up, a free spins bonus with a minor twist, and a somewhat boring base game in which you have small wins which serve little more than consolation prizes until you unlock a feature or win the progressive jackpot.
We really can’t fault RTG, as the formula obviously works as they’re still producing new releases ten years down the line, but it’s interesting to take a look back and see how little things have changed until very recently.
Green is your Friend
We’re certain that at least part of our slight dislike for the colour green was influenced by this slot when it first came out. To win free spins, it took a really long time as you had several hoops to jump through in Green Light.
The first of which is getting three green lights – as the lights don’t appear always green, so while you could have three ready to go, they can be yellow or red, which means no free spins. After you get three green Scatters, you have to pick a car which will race against other cars, and its places in the race determine how many free spins you win, which can go between 5 to 25. That said, once you do finally trigger it, all the wins are doubled, and it can be retriggered, so you’re usually in the money once you finally get it.
As such, our final verdict is a bit more mixed than usual for an RTG slot. While the basic formula is still the same, the twist this time around wasn’t quite on the money as in the previous few titles. Not everything is a winner, and we can still recommend it if you’re curious about giving it a go – just expect it to take a while before the feature kicks in.
