Dead or Alive Slot Overview
The storm’s rolling in, the winds blowing, and all the cowboys are crowding the local watering hole, with one hand on their drink and the other on their waist. It’s always a tense situation with money involved, and in NetEnt’s Dead or Alive slot, it’s a fight that’s just waiting to happen. A 5 reel, 9 payline slot, it’s light on the base game wins, but it more than makes up for it with a special feature that’ll have you chasing bandits on the wanted posters. While not graphically the best thing the developers have released, it holds a slight charm while it draws you in with the promise of big pays.
Dead or Alive Slot: Cowboy’s Paradise
With the smoking revolver as a logo, the dusty, rocky background where a storm is brewing, and the many symbols that make us wonder if NetEnt didn’t strip a sheriff from his clothes to get them, there’s no denying Dead or Alive slot echoes the Wild West from the popular movie genre. The graphics aren’t the best that the publisher has put out, but they’re more than serviceable, with every icon clearly visible.
And there’s a lot of good and a lot of bad as far as symbols go. The lower paying bracket comes out as a group of poker card icons. 10, J, Q, K and A. They fit well enough on the reels as far as the aesthetic goes, but we don’t really feel like they belong thematically, especially given you can see them next to a glass of whisky, cowboy boots, a large white hat, a gun holster, and a sheriff’s badge. And if you’re really looking for something that will get your heart racing, take a peek out for the wanted posters that are Wilds, and the twin revolvers that mark the Scatters!
A Sticky Good Time
The big appeal of the Dead or Alive slot doesn’t lie in how much you can win while playing casually. Dead spins aren’t that uncommon, and lower paying icons can return less for a three of a kind win than what you would usually wager on the reels. Still, there’s no rule of thumb, as with a bit of luck and some Wilds popping up, you can ride on home with a decent win during normal gameplay. But there simply is no comparison with the free spins special feature that comes with Sticky Wilds.
Like many free spins bonuses, it is activated by getting three or more Scatters on the playing field. You get 12 extra rounds no matter how many Scatters are on the reels, and a 2x multiplier on everything, making every win that more lucrative. On top of that, Wilds will stick in place while the special feature is active, and if you uncover all five bandits at once, you can get another 5 free spins, which is an awesome gift. How much you score here admittedly comes from how many Wilds appear and how they position. We got lucky and managed to score Wilds across the centre of the reel, which gave us a win each turn, and we ended up walking away with a win that was 266 more than what we wagered. A great deal for us!
