Lost Island Slot Overview
Mysterious islands far from human eyes have long since been a running theme in many games, movies and books. It invites the imagination, of things beyond what we can even dream of, secret experiments, long dead species hiding away in a forgotten piece of Earth, and various other things that we’ve seen over the years. You’d be forgiven for thinking NetEnt’s take on Lost Island slot was more a sci-fi theme, at first. The backdrop looks almost alien, compared to the tools and decorations of a primitive society you find there. It offers gamblers a 5×3 reel with 20 paylines, and invites you to try your luck at bumping up the multiplier count as much as possible, in an effort to win the prize jackpot of 500,000 coins.
A Tropical Paradise!
Given NetEnt’s recent trends, it doesn’t surprise to find that visually speaking, Lost Island is a really pretty slot. The music inspires a sense of quiet awe and wanderlust, which meshes well with the exotic plant life and odd symbols you find lying about the reels. It helps you get your mind racing, thinking about what it might mean. Old traces of an exterminated alien civilisation? Artefacts left by the natives who inhabit it? The thick plant life hides its secrets well, leaving you with nothing but what your mind comes up with.
Gamblers looking to play it can bet from $0.20 up to $100 per spin, which is more or less standard fare. NetEnt maintains its traditions in more than graphics, however, with a paytable that can leave a sour taste in your mouth, and what’s no doubt supposed to be offset by the various multiplier Wilds you see thrown about the reels. It’s hard to miss them, as they make an appearance almost every turn, and play out their little animation, even if they aren’t part of a winning combination. It’s a mild annoyance, but given a number of dead spins you’ll be facing as you go through the game, it really doesn’t seem wise to pile onto their losing streak.
Not as great as it seems
The two special features on offer for the Lost Island slot are Wilds that fill up multipliers, and a free spins bonus with a little extra added to it. It’s a very simple affair. For a single spin, all the Wilds that appear bump up your multiplier, so for three Wilds you get a 3x increase. This is meant to offset the low paytable and even open up a path for gamblers to make a big win, but not too many people bragged about ever scoring that one.
And the free spins work in just the expected fashion. You trigger them with Scatters, and the more Scatters activate the special feature, the more free spins you get. It is set apart from other similar bonuses by placing an overlay Wild in the middle of the reels, which increases your odds of scoring big.
On the grand scheme of things, Lost Island isn’t a bad slot. But it really isn’t a good one either. We’d place it in the average to above average, which will usually depend on your luck with the multipliers. Free spins are ridiculously difficult to trigger, and for all our time with the title, we haven’t managed to actually activate them. So should you play it? We’d say no. There’s better stuff out there you could spend your money on.
