And perhaps most fascinating of all is Japanese culture, a giddying mix of age-old traditions and the very latest in hi-tech, megacities and historic palaces. Asian Diamonds heads off to the Land of the Rising Sun, and provides a similar juxtaposition of opposites, with a very simple slot in an age of the complex machine.

The empire of the sun
